Special Services

Social Worker

Hardin County Schools has recently added a social worker to our Northside staff to enable students and their families to have an additional resource for student support and success. Our social worker, Ms. Molly Carroll, serves our students daily.  She has extensive experience with children and is available to meet with students and families as needed. Truancy, personal counseling, and consultation with our faculty and staff are the primary areas of focus for Ms. Molly.

Special Education and RTI

All students learn differently and often need support to reach their academic goals. Through the efforts of our Special Education faculty and staff, along with our Interventionists, our students receive Math and Reading support.  All students are eligible for intervention services to meet their unique needs in a flexible setting.  Special Education services are based on needs as evidenced by individual psycho-educational evaluations.  Services included under the Special Education umbrella includes Speech and/or Language, Gifted, enhanced Reading or Math, and occupational or physical therapy.  We also serve pre-school age children who have developmental delays or speech needs.

Medical Services

Northside is fortunate to have the nursing services of Angel Garner, R.N. Nurse Angel takes care of our students, faculty, and staff each day as our full-time nurse. She also coordinates additional health services with the Hardin County Health Department who provides free flu shots to students annually.  As a partner in the Coordinated School Health program, Nurse Angel helps with our annual health screenings for our students. Students have their hearing, vision, and blood pressure checked along with height and weight measures.  Parents/guardians receive the results of the health screenings so they are aware of their child’s health needs, if any.

Safety and Security

Northside, along with the Hardin County Board of Education, value the importance of safety and security within our school. All visitors must check-in through the office upon arrival. We screen all visitors carefully and only permit persons with school business inside our school. To increase safety for our students, faculty, and staff, we practice fire drills monthly, tornado drills twice per year and an annual intruder drill. Many of our personnel are CPR certified and have been trained in rescue skills.

Through a partnership between the Hardin County Board of Education and the Hardin County Sheriff’s Department, all schools within the district have a School Resource Officer (SRO). At Northside, our SRO is Deputy Joe Isbell. Deputy Isbell has over 10 years of law enforcement experience and has served in many leadership roles as part of his job. As part of his responsibilities, Deputy Isbell monitors our school building for security purposes, assists with students arriving in the mornings and dismissal in the afternoons. He also works with our faculty in presenting safety lessons for our students.

“From the first child I see in the mornings, to the last child in the afternoon, they keep a smile on my face. I love the children and the staff here at Northside. This is the best job I have ever had!”

Deputy Joe Isbell
